Cross Country Success!

With our first year of school comes our first ever cross country. The cross country is a race around the park next to the school where you compete against the other kids your age and win points for your house team. You have to follow the route mapped out with orange cones and make it to the finish line to finish the race. Emmi-Belle following a track and following a group??... I was very excited to see how this would all play out.

I stood to the side of the track with my camera waiting for the kids to line up. I was hoping Em wouldn’t see me so that she didn’t get distracted and want to go home with me. The girls walked on onto the track and lined up waiting for the gun to blow. It was at that moment she spotted me... It was all over red rover... or was it?

Em’s teacher aide tried to refocus her on the race as E-B threw herself to the ground cracking it and trying to get away. She was not going to do the race and it was about to start. So I did what any parent would do, I ran onto the track, grabbed her hand and as the gun shot blew we started running together.

Now, you don’t get a body like mine by running and to be honest running and I don’t really see eye to eye so it wasn’t a surprise that after only a couple of minutes I was beginning to regret my over enthusiastic decision.

First lap down and I was buggered all the while trying really hard not to show it. Thank god when we hit the second lap Em decided to walk for a bit. Fhhewww! The teacher and I got our breath back and prepared for the home stretch. As we hit the main drag lining up for the finish line we ran down the track hand in hand with the entire school on the sideline cheering at the top of their lungs for Emmi-Belle. My heart was so full!
