Outside the lines...
We colour inside the lines and follow the leader, we raise our hand to speak and learn from a book but what if we were not limited to the lines and made our own path? What if we spoke freely with passion and learned in a way that fits us individually? The growth could be mind blowing and the possibilities endless. We are so lucky to have a team around Emmi-Belle that encourages her “out of the box” thinking, celebrates her uniqueness and embraces what she can teach those around her.
Emmi-Belle’s class were given a sheet of numbers from 1-9 to colour. They had free rein of the pens and pencils to colour the numbers as they pleased. While children were beautifully colouring the numbers in their favourite colours, Emmi-Belle in true E-B style had other plans for her masterpiece. Each number became a character reflecting her thoughts at the time. If you are familiar with kids Tv characters you might find Blues Clues and Magenta amongst the mix along with a lady beetle and the infamous orange cat.
When the teachers handed me the artwork I could not wipe the smile off my face. Her little brain is just so amazing!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying kids should just be left to do what they want without any rules or structure, I believe the typical way of teaching is not the best way for every kid. Our Em is the type of child that definitely needs to be pushed but also given room to do things in her own way. It might be tweaking the way she is taught things, but it’s worth taking the time to figure out what works.
